Suspected Drug Trafficker Jumps into Indian Ocean to Avoid Arrest

A suspected drug trafficker evaded being arrested on Tuesday by jumping into the Indian Ocean.

The incident occurred when police flagged down a vehicle in Mtwapa, Kilifi County to conduct a routine check.

To their surprise, the driver took off and jumped into the ocean.

Kilifi police boss Alexander Makau disclosed that the drugs were concealed in bags and the driver is yet to be arrested.

"The vehicle was flagged down during a routine police check when the driver took off and abandoned the vehicle.

"This prompted officers to inspect the vehicle and impounded the drugs, “said Makau.

The vehicle was reportedly seized with 3,155 rolls of bhang estimated to be worth over Sh1 Million.

Makau said the drugs were being ferried from Mombasa to an unknown location within Kilifi County.

The vehicle is currently at the Mtwapa police station as investigations continue.

Senior anti-narcotic officers suspect the driver is among wanted drug traffickers who have in the past escaped police dragnets.

Early this year, the government extradited the Akasha brothers and two other suspects to the US to face drug trafficking charges.
