Youth Storm Migori County Assembly Chambers During Election of House Speaker

There was chaos at the Migori County Assembly on Thursday after youth stormed the chambers disrupting election of the House speaker.

Voting had reached second round after contestants failed to garner the outright two-thirds majority in the first round of elections.

During the commotion, nominated representative Ester Onana collapsed and was rushed to the Migori County Referral Hospital.

It was not immediately clear whether the youth were sponsored or whether they were supporting any of the candidates in the Speaker’s race.

During the first round of the election, Lawyer David Kerario Marwa garnered 25 votes beating former Migori Speaker Boaz Okoth who got 21 votes.

Meanwhile, former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka was elected Senate Speaker after securing 42 out of 67 votes.

He was sworn-in shortly after the voting process and thanked Senators for electing him as their speaker.

The new Senate speaker promised to work with all members and recognised his predecessors for a job well done.
