Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asserted that he will not engage in any talks with President William Ruto, despite calls for a national dialogue by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Gachagua, speaking during his tour of the United States on Saturday, July 12, claimed it was not possible to hold talks with Ruto, whom he described as a pathological liar.

According to Gachagua, perhaps on a light note, Ruto’s alleged deceitfulness was so pronounced that even the opposition was beginning to doubt whether the President’s real name was William Ruto.

“It is not possible to have dialogue with Ruto because the guy is a pathological liar. We are actually having doubts whether his real name is William Ruto,” Gachagua stated.

“If there is any talk with William Ruto, I am not available. And I also do not think my sister (Martha Karua) is available,” he added.

On the 35th anniversary of the Saba Saba protests on Monday, July 7, Raila issued a call for a ‘national conclave’ to address Kenya's socio-political and economic crisis.

According to the former Prime Minister, the country is still grappling with the same issues that led to the emergence of the Saba Saba protests in the 1990s, such as economic hardship and human rights violations.

Raila argued that a national conclave would chart a new path for the country through civic engagement and economic reform.

However, Gachagua poured cold water on the dialogue talks, claiming that Raila had nothing to offer at the political table. The former Deputy President asserted that Raila was calling for dialogue while simultaneously benefiting from being part of the government.

“That line of thinking of dialogue is being brought by Raila. Raila is totally irrelevant in the Kenyan political discourse. Because every election cycle, he loses, he finds his way into government. He wants to be in government, but he does not want responsibility,” Gachagua stated.

“Right now, he finds things are too hot; he wants to distance himself. But if he were a patriotic Kenyan, and he meant well for our country, he would disengage from Ruto. But now he is talking when his mouth is full,” he added.

Gachagua is currently in the United States for a two-month tour engaging Kenyans in the diaspora as the race for the Presidency in the upcoming 2027 General Elections heats up.
