NASA Leader Raila Odinga Rejects New Presidential Election Date Set by IEBC

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga has rejected the new Presidential election date set by the IEBC.

Speaking to the media today morning, Mr Odinga dismissed the election date noting that IEBC had not consulted the National Super Alliance (NASA) on the matter.

He argued that there were thorny issues that needed to be taken care of first before the elections are conducted.

On Monday, IEBC announced that the fresh presidential election ordered by the Supreme Court would be held on Tuesday, October 17.

Through a statement issued by Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the electoral commission added that only President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga would be on the ballot paper.

Chebukati noted that IEBC was revising the operational and procedural requirements for the conduct of a fresh election.

On Friday, the Court nullified President Kenyatta's win after a successful petition filed by the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders.

Reading the ruling, Chief Justice David Maraga ordered the electoral body to conduct a fresh election within 60 days which would be any date before November 1.
