3 Petitions Filed Against Jubilee Elected Politicians in Meru County

A section of Meru politicians has vowed to file election petitions against Jubilee elected politicians in the region a day after former Meru Governor Peter Munya defected to the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Munya disputed Governor Kiraitu Murung'i's win stating that the results were manipulated. He is expected to file his case today.

Former North Imenti MP aspirant Silas Muriuki, who lost to Abdul Rahim Dawood of Jubilee Party, also stated that he would move to the court to challenge Mr Rahim's win.

Mr Muriuki cited one polling station where the electoral officials announced that he had zero votes but later rectified to 157 votes after his supporters and agents protested.

He, therefore, pointed out that the fault in that station is proof that the election conducted in the County was a fraud.

Elijah Kimathi, who lost in the MCA contest, is also expected to file an election petition disputing the results after he lost to Gervase King'ori Gituma of Jubilee Party.

Among Mr Kimathi's complaints is that one of his agents were denied access into some of the polling stations.

Besides the politicians, a section of Meru voters led by Lewis Kithinji has noted that the elections in the region were full of malpractices and promised to go to court to file a petition against IEBC.

The move by these individuals come days after the Supreme court ruled in favour of the NASA coalition by nullifying the presidential results that declared Jubilee's  Uhuru Kenyatta as the winner.

IEBC has announced that fresh presidential elections will be held on October 17th.
