Former Gatundu North MP Reveals He Lost Election Due to Witchcraft

Former Gatundu North Member of Parliament (MP) Clement Waibara has filed an election petition seeking to challenge the election of Anne Wanjiku Kibe, blaming his loss on witchcraft.

Wanjiku was declared the winner in the parliamentary race with 39,448 votes beating Waibara who had 9,296 votes.

In his affidavit, the politician indicated that he was defeated since Ms Kibe used witchcraft to scare voters into backing her parliamentary bid in the August election.

He further indicated that the elections were full of irregularities as there was no proper collation, tallying and tabulation of the results.

In the petition, the politician also cites cases of threats and violence which he states undermined his voters' ability to take part in the exercise.

"The election was marred by a systemic failure of technology as most voters' fingerprints could not be read by the KIEMS gadgets," he stated.

According to the former MP, the polling stations were not well lit during tallying, and agents were forced to use flashlights on their phones.

"There was no justice for Gatundu North residents since pre-marked ballot papers were stuffed in boxes after voting closed," he noted.

"As far as I know, there was no election in Gatundu North especially after fake ballot papers were recovered in a thicket and dustbins.

"I have confidence that after my evidence is presented in court, the whole country will be shocked about what happened," Waibara stated.

He, therefore wants the court to declare that he was validly elected Gatundu North MP in the August 8 General Election.
