  • Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has announced that he will not campaign for his party Leader, Raila Odinga, ahead of the October Presidential election.

Speaking in Kilifi County, Kingi stated that campaigning for Mr Odinga in Kilifi was similar to asking a Bishop to find salvation.

The Governor expressed confidence that the campaigns conducted during the August elections were enough for the former Prime Minister to secure a win in the upcoming second leg of the Presidential contest.

"Wengi wanashang'a kwanini Governor Kingi hajaanza campaign za Raila hapa kilifi, mimi nauliza camapign za nini? Kumuuza Raila Odinga Kilifi ni kama Kumuaambia Bishop Lewa ampokee Yesu Christo kama Mwokozi wake," the Governor stated.

Loosely translated to: "Many people are wondering why Governor Kingi has not started campaigning for Raila in Kilifi, I am asking, campaigning for what? Marketing Raila Odinga in Kilifi is like asking a Bishop to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour".

Governor Kingi noted that Kilifi residents were waiting for October 17 to turn out in large numbers, vote and get done with the issue of elections.

"We know our game and how to play it," he stated.

In the concluded elections, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) emerged victorious in the County clinching most of the elective seats.

In the Presidential contest, Mr Odinga got 273, 852 votes against President Uhuru Kenyatta's 49, 693 votes.

The Gubernatorial contest had Governor Kingi retaining his seat after garnering 219, 236 against his challenger Gideon Mung'aro who secured 56, 614 votes.

ODM also emerged victorious in the Senatorial race with Steward Madzayo retaining his seat with 209,425 votes against Kennedy Nyale's 62, 356 votes.

The Orange party also won all seven parliamentary seats in the County.   ©   2018   All Rights Reserved
