NASA Co-principals React to Petition Filed to Remove CJ Maraga

National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-principal Musalia Mudavadi has spoken out on the petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu seeking to remove Chief Justice David Maraga from office.

In a statement released at Okoa Kenya Headquarters today, Mudavadi stated: "Disowning the Ngunjiri petition by Tuju (Jubilee Party Secretary General) is a cover-up of Jubilee intentions to intimidate and emasculate the Judiciary before the October 17th election and in numerous petitions filed against Jubilee."

He noted that the petition was part of a bigger scheme to fulfil President Uhuru Kenyatta's vow to 'fix' the judiciary.

The Amani National Congress (ANC) leader went on to cite the utterances by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen in the Senate on Wednesday as further proof of the plot.

The Senate Majority leader had stated, “We shall pass laws to protect the decision of the voter to stop some institutions from making decisions that annul the decision of a voter.”

A petition was filed today by Ngunjiri Wambugu seeking the removal of Justice Maraga from office on grounds of gross misconduct.

The Jubilee Party, through its Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, came out to distance the party from the petition, asserting that it had been filed by Mr Wambugu in his capacity as a citizen.

Jubilee -allied MPs from Kisii have also disparaged the petition, with Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi demanding Mr Wambugu withdraw the case by tomorrow.

Other Jubilee lawmakers, including Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria have requested Wambugu to withdraw the petition, stating that the Nyeri Town MP was "largely out of order".

He added that Mr Wambugu was grossly underqualified to wade into an issue involving the heads of two arms of government.
