The government has notified landowners along the proposed Kenol–Sagana–Marua dual carriageway that it will begin conducting compensation hearings starting next month.
This follows the acquisition of land for the Kenol–Sagana–Marua (A2) Road Project in Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties.
In a Gazette Notice published by the National Land Commission (NLC) on behalf of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the public was informed that the compensation inquiry will commence on August 18, 2025, at designated venues in the two counties.
“In pursuance of Section 112 and 162 (2) of the Land Act, Part VIII… the National Land Commission on behalf of Kenya National Highways Authority gives notice that an inquiry to hear compensation claims… shall be held on the dates and places shown,” read part of the notice.
The hearings are part of the legal process required before the government can take possession of private land for public infrastructure projects. Landowners, residents, and companies whose properties fall within the corridor of the road project are expected to present their compensation claims during the sessions.
“Every person interested in the affected land is required to deliver to the National Land Commission on or before the day of the inquiry a written claim to compensation,” the notice added.
Claimants are required to submit identification documents, including a copy of their national ID, Personal Identification Number (PIN), land ownership documents, and bank account details.
Corporate entities are also required to provide their certificate of incorporation, CR12 form, KRA PIN, and identity documentation for company directors.
The Commission noted that its offices in Nairobi at Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, as well as at the County Coordinator's offices in Kirinyaga and Nyeri, will assist affected individuals in lodging their claims ahead of the inquiry dates.
The Kenol–Sagana–Marua Road Project, a major infrastructure initiative under Kenya’s national development blueprint, aims to improve connectivity between Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region.
The Kenol–Sagana–Marua (A2) Road is a key component of Kenya’s Northern Corridor transport infrastructure and forms part of the strategic Nairobi–Isiolo–Moyale route that links Kenya to Ethiopia. The road also connects with the Lamu Port–South Sudan–Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, making it critical for regional trade and integration across East Africa.
Its expansion and upgrade into a dual carriageway is expected to ease traffic congestion, boost access to central and northern Kenya, and enhance the movement of goods and people between Mombasa, Nairobi, and neighboring countries. The project is among Kenya’s flagship infrastructure investments aimed at transforming regional connectivity and economic growth.
