Presidential Results Will Not Be Transported to Nairobi - NASA Declares

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has declared that results in the fresh presidential election will not be transported to Bomas Tallying Centre in Nairobi to be announced.

Addressing a rally on Friday at Ahindi gardens,  Siaya Senator James Orengo announced that NASA would participate in the polls if IEBC agreed to their term.

"The results will not be transported to Nairobi. The results will be counted and announced at the constituency level," he demanded.

He added that the opposition coalition would only accept results that have been transmitted in a manner prescribed in the Constitution.

"We don't want results transmitted in text format, only forms 34A and B in accordance with the law," he affirmed.

Mr Orengo urged residents to turn out in large numbers to vote for Raila Odinga.

On Thursday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi stated that the coalition had resolved not to hold any other casual or board room meetings with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, as the body is currently constituted.

He further highlighted five key conditions for the IEBC to implement before the October 17 presidential poll is carried out. He noted that they had conveyed their preconditions to the IEBC in a letter.

NASA demanded that the IEBC conduct a fresh and credible procurement process of election materials protesting the decision to enlist Al Ghurair as the contracted printer of election ballot papers.

Second, the Opposition has demanded that the ICT systems that will be used by the IEBC be made transparent and accessible to the candidates.

Next, the coalition has demanded the immediate "replacement of irredeemable personnel who abetted electoral fraud" while making reference to IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba.

Fourth, NASA principals demanded that the IEBC conduct a fresh gazettement of all the polling stations that will be used during the October 17 presidential poll.

Finally, the Opposition leaders have ordered the IEBC to make provisions in all 290 constituency tallying centres that will enable the live transmission of presidential election results as was done at the National tallying centre during the August 8 polls.
