Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has been given 48 hours to either resign or take action against police officers who reportedly assaulted students at the University of Nairobi (UoN).
The order was given by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Student Leaders Association (KUCSLA) after videos of police harassing students emerged.
They further accused the University's administration of colluding with the Ministry of Internal Security to allow police inside the institution's compound.
"What we saw was a collusion between the administration of the University Of Nairobi and the Ministry of Internal Security to allow D minus graduates to step into the University of Nairobi, to harass not only the lectures but also students. We are demanding that within 48 hours the consequences of what we shall tell people of Kenya should better be imagined than experienced," the students vowed.
The student body demanded that the Inspector General ensures that laptops and computers reportedly stolen by the officers are returned immediately.
The Association claims that apart from stealing and beating their colleagues, the police sexually assaulted some students.
The body led by Reeves Brian accused the government of spending a lot of energy and resources on Embakasi East MP Babu Owino instead of paying lecturers.
''We also want to send a clear message to the government, the time, the money, the energy, the resources the government is spending on one individual Babu Owino, the government should instead redirect that energy into solving lecturers strike which is not solved up to now," stated Brian.
