A planned demonstration by the Opposition supporters in Embu town has turned violent after Jubilee supporters attacked them.
Trouble started when Kirimari Ward MCA, Morris Nyaga, and his counterpart for Ruguru Ngandori Ward, Sammy Muturi, intercepted the demonstrators and urged them to break up their protests.
Boda boda operators joined the flay and disrupted the demonstration but NASA supporters did not relent, soldering on to the local Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices.
Moses Wamuru, a NASA supporter, affirmed that they would not be cowed and will demonstrate until the Opposition’s demands are met.
During the confrontation, Jubilee supporters tore up NASA placards, insisting they would not allow demonstrations in Embu. They expressed their displeasure with the leaders for disrupting the peaceful demonstrations.
The Kirimari MCA urged NASA leaders to call off the demonstrations and face President Uhuru Kenyatta on October 26.
The demonstrations were planned countrywide to force out the electoral body officials who are accused of overseeing irregularities in the August 8 election.
Other parts of the country where the demonstrations happened experienced chaos and unrest with police clashing with demonstrators.
The National Super Alliance plans to have the demonstrations every Monday and Friday.
