Missing blogger Ndiangui Kinyagia has presented himself before the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi, moments after the family denied claims that he had been found.
The blogger was found after revealing his whereabouts to his family. According to his family lawyer, Wahome Thuku, the activist who has been missing for over 10 days, told them that he was in hiding in an undisclosed location in fear for his life.
Images and videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke showed the activist visibly shaken by the developments. His lawyers echoed this concern, urging the court to grant them time to speak with him privately and confirm whether he was in a stable condition to proceed with the hearing.
However, the government counsels insisted that the case be allowed to continue since all the parties were present.
Justice Chacha Mwita had directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss and the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to appear in court on Tuesday, July 1, to explain the whereabouts of activist Kinyagia, who had been reported missing since Saturday, June 21.
Despite the court order, both officials failed to appear as directed. However, by the time of publication, DCI Director Mohamed Amin had presented himself before the court.
Prior to Amin’s appearance, fingers had been pointed at the DCI in connection with Kinyagia’s disappearance. The activist went missing on the same day individuals believed to be DCI officers were seen raiding his residence in Kiambu County.
The developments come after Kinyagia had shared a post on his X platform on Thursday, June 19, detailing the itinerary of the June 25 protests that included a plan to march to State House and the declaration of a new republic.
