Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has issued a stern ultimatum to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), threatening to exit the party if it maintains its relationship with President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Amisi set March 9, 2026, as his deadline.
"I said on March 9, if ODM is still propagating the Ruto shenanigans, then I am going to make an announcement that is going to shape Kenyan politics and destroy William Ruto into pieces," he declared.
The legislator warned that ODM risks becoming a regional outfit confined to Nyanza, similar to Kenya African National Unity's (KANU) national decline.
He expressed concern that the Party, once a powerful mass movement under the late Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025, is being reduced to a shadow of its former self.
Amisi condemned the Party's pro-government faction led by newly appointed Party Leader Oburu Oginga, Governor Gladys Wanga, and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed.
He warned that collaboration with the government could dilute ODM’s distinct political stance.
"Once a party loses its identity and vibrance, reviving it becomes extremely difficult," Amisi stated.
The legislature also criticized the United Opposition coalition featuring Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang'i, George Natembeya, Martha Karua, and Kalonzo Musyoka.
He dismissed their approach as ineffective against Ruto in 2027.
"Opposition must be real, not just about endless press conference statements, church services, burials every day. This is a joke," he remarked.
Amisi emphasized that genuine opposition requires presenting a structural alternative leadership rather than merely organizing public rallies.
The divisions within ODM have intensified following Raila's death, with pro-government and opposition factions battling over the Party's future direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Co-operatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya too declared that he is ready to leave the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the sake of uniting the Western region.
Oparanya, while speaking during the funeral service of Cyrus Jirongo on Tuesday, December 30, said that if his exit from the ODM party would make the Luhya community unite, then he was ready to make that sacrifice.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders have criticized ODM’s alliance with President William Ruto’s UDA, saying it undermines the party’s ability to hold the government accountable.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has also echoed grassroots frustrations, saying collaboration betrays supporters. The arrangement has fueled succession tensions, ideological confusion, and accusations of elite deals overriding party principles and undermining unity ahead of future elections nationwide.
Caleb Amisi believes that it is just a matter of time before ODM loses its grip on the masses, a dire threat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
