NASA Leader Raila Odinga Suffers Blow as 500 NASA Members Join President Uhuru Kenyatta's Team

Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on Thursday suffered a major blow after more than 500 members of the Kamba community living in Nakuru on Thursday ditched the National Super Alliance (NASA) for President's Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.

Led by their chairman Gerald Kilonzo, the NASA members explained that their decision to change camp was informed by the fact that they reside in Nakuru which is majorly a Jubilee zone.

"It was impossible for us to align ourselves with those in the eastern part of the country because they have different ideologies," Kilonzo told the Star.

Regarding their campaign plans for President Kenyatta, Kilonzo mentioned that the community had formed committees in all the eleven sub-counties of the County to popularise President Kenyatta's re-election bid.

"We have been outside government for four years and we have experienced developments by the Jubilee government. We want this time to get involved with the government while in it," Kilonzo stated.

One of the defectors, Anne King'aotole on her part stated that they will mobilise their own resources to campaign for the Head of State.

Speaking while receiving the defectors, Nakuru Deputy Governor Dr Erick Korir and Nakuru county Jubilee party chairman David Manyara welcomed the new supporters to the party.

The Deputy Governor applauded the community for decamping and urged them to work with the team to ensure that President is re-elected.

"You have made a bold move which will see the head of state score more votes come October 26," Korir stated.

Nakuru County is perceived to be a Jubilee Party stronghold as they overwhelmingly voted for  President Kenyatta in the 2013 and 2017 elections.
