NASA Supporters Block City Roads

Supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) have commenced their demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) blocking roads in several parts of the country.

In Nairobi, the Mathare-Juja road has been closed after the group lit a fire in the middle of the road before paralysing transport in the area.

NASA supporters in Kisumu town have also started protesting, blocking the Kisumu-Kakamega road.

The countrywide demonstrations by the opposition to force out IEBC commissioners are planned for today, Friday.

On Thursday, Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe warned the coalition against holding the demos stating that they have disrupted business in the CBD.

He urged the opposition leaders to sell their agenda peacefully without inciting Kenyans.

Kiraithe further accused NASA of holding the country at ransom, hurting the economy in the processs.

“As we emphasize that it is your right to participate in such demonstrations, we want citizens to know that for over six months now, the economy has greatly slowed down and as a country, we cannot afford this trend,” started Kiraithe.

The coalition has been pushing for the ouster of CEO Ezra Chiloba and implementation of other reforms before holding the October presidential election.

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed in an interview with Kenyans.co.ke remained adamant that the protests would continue but declined to reveal how they would conduct their demos after being kept at bay by police last week.
