Nyali MP Mohammed Ali Speaks on Joining President Uhuru Kenyatta's Team After Attending Jubilee Rally

Nyali Member of Parliament Mohammed Ali on Monday dismissed claims that he had joined President Uhuru Kenyatta's team after attending a Jubilee Party rally at Kongowea, Mombasa County.

In a statement, the Nyali MP stated that he attended the President's event to show respect to the Presidency and pass a message from his constituents to the Head of State.

"Given the political tension in the country right now, my decision to attend his rally as MP for Nyali was a difficult one to make, but I chose to attend it, and give the office of the President its due respect. Also, young in the field of politics as I may be, I chose to respect the event and attend because I wanted to deliver a message.

"I chose to attend precisely because of the point we are at in this country today. Both political formations, NASA and JUBILEE have, through their actions, removed any possibility for negotiation on the best way forward for our country," Mr Ali stated.

The former KTN journalist categorically stated that he did not agree with President Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party policies but attended the event to show the people that their concerns would always come first.

"I hope that perhaps, in welcoming a man, and a party whose policies I personally disagree with, shows the public that politics is important, but that their lives are more important.

"As an Independent Member of Parliament, my responsibility is first and foremost to the people of Nyali, who elected me. The people of this constituency need jobs, better healthcare and education for their children, and a hope for the future. As I did on the campaign trail, I say that I will work with all people whose core interest is to develop Nyali, and make this constituency the envy of this county," he stated.

On Monday, Mr Ali attended a Jubilee event in the County where he promised to support and work with the candidate who will better the lives of Kenyans.

"You told me about the problems you were experiencing at Kongowea market and I have brought the President to solve them," he stated.

On his part, President Kenyatta disclosed that the Government had launched investigations to establish claims that traders at the Kongowea market were not being served despite paying taxes.

“There is no need for the county government to continue taxing the traders and yet they do not provide the services they have paid for,” President Kenyatta noted.

He stated that the national government would not hesitate to take action against those who failed to deliver.

“We cannot allow the people to suffer in the hands of some few individuals. Wananchi should only pay for services offered to them,” said President Kenyatta.
