IEBC Given Trick to Use After NASA Withdraws From Election

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has advised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on how to ensure the repeat presidential election takes place in opposition strongholds.

Speaking during a panel discussion on NTV, the Jubilee Senator told the electoral commission to get creative to ensure voters in NASA strongholds participate in the elections later in the month.

"IEBC Should think outside of the box because there's no limitation in the way that technology to ensure Kenyan voters vote should be applied.

"In Siaya and Kisumu, IEBC should deploy mobile polling stations where they take those kits to those who are willing to vote and let them vote. Once they vote, bring the results, count them and move on," he advised.

This, he opined, would be a good way to ensure the polls are carried out successfully amid threats from NASA on interfering with the elections.

"There's nowhere the NASA leader has asked for votes ever since the campaigns started," he added.

Meanwhile, National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has withdrawn from the October 26 Presidential election.

Odinga on Tuesday stated that he had withdrawn from the presidential race because 'it is only through his withdrawal that the country will have a free and fair election as per the law.'

NASA's list of irreducible minimums is yet to be addressed and its leaders have maintained they will not participate in the election if major changes are not made in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

"We at NASA have insisted that the fresh election ordered be held to the standard ordered by the Supreme Court, that is, in strict conformity with the Constitution and written law.

"We have provided a checklist of what we deem to be the “irreducible minimum” changes required to ensure compliance and the validity of the checklist of the requirements for free and fair elections proposed by NASA has not been disputed by anyone," Raila stated.
