Police Teargas 20 Nursery School Children

At least 20 pupils of Mount Carmel Academy in Nyalenda, Siaya county, have been taken to hospital after being exposed to police teargas.

Confirming the incident, teachers in the institution revealed that anti-riot police fired teargas canisters into a classroom at the school.

Ms Pauline Ogosa, the pupils' teacher, stated that the children who suffered the attack were below two years old.

'The children cried uncontrollably while others looked almost unconscious due to the effect of the gas and the water,"  Ms Ogosa noted.

She pointed out that the police invaded the school compound as they searched for protestors who had allegedly sought refuge within the institution.

The children were given first aid treatment by Red Cross workers before being rushed to the hospital.

Barely two weeks ago, pupils of St Peter's Awich Kodingo ECDE in Nyalenda constituency were teargassed by police in a similar incident.

In the same county, three people were shot dead and three others seriously injured as police battled NASA supporters in Bondo.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Bondo Member of Parliament (MP) Gideon Ochanda alleged that an organized gang infiltrated the demonstrations that occurred in his constituency.
