Pro- Jubilee supporters flocked outside the venue waving placards as Mr Odinga was delivering his one-hour-long speech titled "Kenya’s Next Test: Democracy, Elections and the Rule of Law" to the delegates.

"Don't run away from democracy, go back for elections Mr. Odinga," one of the placards read.

During his speech, Mr Odinga expressed his frustration with the government's attempt to change the election laws terming them as a malicious move.

"The Government is now introducing amendments to laws to reduce the power of judiciary & amendments to election laws without consultations.

"This is why we've decided not to partake in the election, it's like u come back to a football game at extra time and rules have been changed," he explained.

The NASA leader explained that the violence witnessed in the country was a result of the actions by the government.

"It's not violence- it's state-sponsored thuggery. Instead of the government allowing people to protest peacefully, they are sending police with tear gas," he added.

During the Question and Answer session, he was asked whether he would step down for someone else to take over.

To which Mr Odinga replied: "There's no point in passing on the baton if the playing field remains uneven."
