Jubilee Seeks Help From Maraga’s Team

Jubilee Party has gone to the Supreme Court suing the National Super Alliance (NASA) principals for contempt of court.

The Party, through its Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, stated that the Supreme Court on September 1 ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to hold fresh elections within 60 days in accordance with the constitution.

In a document sent to media houses, Mr Tuju argued that NASA principal Raila Odinga had withdrawn from the repeat presidential election but he had gone ahead to sabotage the poll. He further claimed that he failed to sign Form 24A.

“Raila Odinga has since written to the commission his withdrawal from the fresh poll and has publicly declared that such repeat elections will not take place as per the date gazetted by the IEBC. It should be noted that as it may, he has failed to supply the Commission with the requisite Form 24A, which is the legal instrument for a candidate’s withdrawal,” the document read in part.

Jubilee condemned NASA demonstrators for blocking their local agents in regions considered to be NASA strongholds citing Siaya as one such area.

“Our training of local agents for the Jubilee Party is being obstructed by specifically Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga and Prof Nyong’o of Kisumu by threats that have been verbalized by the two and are in the public domain,” read the statement.

Tuju stated that President Kenyatta and the opposition leader should not hold talks with IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati arguing that the meeting would be illegal.

“If there is any decision by Mr Chebukati reached between President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga it will be illegal, it is null and void,” he ascertained.

“As a referee, he (Mr Chebukati) cannot call the teams and ask them: Hey guys, when do you want us to hold the elections? What rules should we use? In other words, there is no room for dialogue,” he added.

Mr Tuju argued that any dispute on the presidential election could only be handled by the Supreme Court.
