Do Not Betray Chief Justice David Maraga - Raila Tells Kisii Residents

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has urged residents of Kisii region not to vote on October 26 because by doing so, they will have betrayed Chief Justice David Maraga.

Speaking during public rallies in Nyamira and Kisii County, Odinga asked the residents to boycott the election in solidarity with Maraga and Commissioner Roselyn Akombe's principle of credible elections.

“Let us not shame our heroes and heroines Maraga and Akombe for standing up for justice.

"Do not take part in the October 26 fresh presidential poll,” he told residents in Kijauri, Keroka, Keumbu and at Gusii stadium.

Justice Maraga oversaw the first ever nullification of a presidential election in Africa and has in the past distanced himself from political pronouncements from both Jubilee Party and NASA.

During his September ruling, Maraga stated that there were several irregularities and illegalities that IEBC had to iron out before conducting a credible poll.

His decision was met with praise and criticism in equal measure as some of the Jubilee Party politicians accused him of siding with NASA.

Last week, Ms Akombe resigned from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) citing internal divisions and credibility issues ahead of the fresh polls.

She stated that it was almost impossible for the electoral body to deliver a credible election and distanced herself from the whole process.

Akombe also talked about her life being at risk and hinted that some of the top commissioners were partisan in their decision-making.

Mr Odinga, accompanied by co-principals Moses Wetang’ula and Musalia Mudavadi, added that nothing could convince them to take part in the poll — not even the three-week leave by IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba.

“We know Chiloba has already set the stage for rigging. We are not fools!” he noted.
