Jubilee Leaders to Offer Free Transport From Nairobi

Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Woman Representative Sabina Chege have launched a campaign to ferry voters from Nairobi to Murang'a on Thursday, October 26th.

The leaders stated that they wanted to maximize turn-out in the polls in support of President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election campaign.

The Woman Representative divulged that the campaign would target those unable to get to Murang'a due to financial constraints.

In an exclusive conversation with Kenyans.co.ke, she stated: "It is an initiative by the Governor, Senator and I, using our own resources."

"We will be ferrying anyone who comes with their Identification card from 5 am to 1 pm," she added.

Those interested in the offer will be picked up at Koinange in Nairobi on Thursday from 5 am to allow them to get to Murang'a and cast their votes on time.

Speaking in State House on Monday, President Kenyatta expressed confidence that a high turnout by his supporters would render National Super Alliance (NASA) candidate Raila Odinga's withdrawal inconsequential.

"If our turnout is over 55%, that will be sufficient even if the other 45% does not show up" he stated.

He maintained that it was the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission's (IEBC) mandate to conduct the election, dismissing the opposition's declaration that the poll is illegitimate.

This was in light of an admission by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati that he could not guarantee a free and fair election under the current circumstances.
