Senator Kipchumba Murkomen Reveals How Chebukati Will Help NASA On Wednesday

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has alleged that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has been drawn into a plan to help the National Super Alliance (NASA) on Wednesday.

Addressing a press briefing on Tuesday, Murkomen claimed that a case filed at the Supreme Court seeking to have the election called off was developed by Civil Society actors working for NASA.

He further claimed that Mr George Kegoro and Mr Haron Ndubi met IEBC Chair Mr Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday afternoon and convinced him to appear in court and support the case.

Murkomen, the Senate Majority leader, stated that Chebukati was "swinging like a pendulum" on the issue of whether or not the October 26th election date was viable.

He, however, maintained that there would be an election on October 26th.

Chief Justice David Maraga certified the case as urgent adding that it will be heard on Wednesday.

It was filed by three people; Mr Khalef Khalifa, Mr Samuel Mohochi and Mr Gacheke Gachuhi, who want the October 26th election called off.

The petitioners have cited Wafula Chebukati as one of the respondents in the case.

They argue that IEBC's planning for the repeat presidential election is not in line with the Constitution, since fresh elections should begin with a new nomination exercise for the candidates.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga is also expected to make a major announcement on Wednesday concerning the way forward for NASA and its supporters.
