Balala Issues New Demand To IEBC

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declare Jubilee Party candidate Uhuru Kenyatta as president-elect.

Speaking alongside other Jubilee leaders in Mombasa, Balala maintained that the time for politics was over and focus should shift to the socio-economic development of the Coast.

He pre-empted the IEBC's announcement of results as he revealed that President Uhuru garnered 7.5 Million votes.

Mr Balala stated: "We know Uhuru got 7.5 million votes...We want the IEBC to declare Uhuru as president."

He was accompanied by former Mombasa Gubernatorial aspirants Hassan Omar and Hussein Shahbal as well as former Kilifi Gubernatorial aspirant Gideon Mung'aro.

Turn-out in the repeat election at the Coast was low, with many heeding NASA leader Raila Odinga's call not to take part.

Over 40 Jubilee Party agents in Mombasa failed to turn up at the polling stations on election day.

On Thursday, after casting his vote at PHD in Mwembe Tayari, Balala promised that action would be taken on the agents for abandoning their responsibilities.

“The agents did not show up in a few polling stations. This is a problem of dishonesty. But we are going to take legal action against the agents who did not show up. I want to warn them that as Jubilee Party, we are going to deal with them,” he stated.

Mvita and Kisauni constituencies, which have the largest number of registered voters in Mombasa, were the most affected.
