A family in Pipeline, Nairobi, is mourning the loss of their 27-year-old relative, Susan Nabwire, after she was allegedly brutally murdered by her husband.
Nabwire, a mother of a one-year-old, was killed on the night of August 13 by her 44-year-old husband, a former police officer, before he turned to his house help and sexually assaulted her.
Recounting the incident, Nabwire's mother relayed that the suspect had arrived home on that fateful day, already in a foul mood.
After accusing her of cheating on him, he reportedly demanded her phone, passwords, and the PIN to her mobile money account.
"The wife refused to give him the PIN number, and he went to the bedroom. He removed his clothes and took a picture, then told his wife to take off her clothes and take the picture with him as well," the mother narrated.
Later in the night, at around 3am, the house help recalled that the man took an axe and embarked on a brutal physical attack on her.
A blow to the neck left her with a deep cut that sent her collapsing helplessly to the floor, as she pleaded for mercy to no avail.
"He was arguing with Susan through the night, then later he went to the bathroom and came back with an axe. He struck her neck with the axe and the head," he stated.
"Then he took a rope and started strangling her with it. He then took a knife and started to stab her in the eyes, telling her that he would kill her as she watched."
After strangling her with the rope, he shoved her body under the bed and turned on the house help, sexually assaulting her.
He then locked his wife's lifeless body in the house with the house help and the toddler and left with their mobile phones.
When the police arrived, they broke down the door and transported Nabwire's body to Mama Lucy's mortuary, where it is currently preserved.
The wayward husband was finally apprehended on Saturday, August 23, and he is currently being held at the Embakasi Police Station awaiting arraignment.
