Kenya Met has announced that residents living in Nairobi should brace for occasional showers, especially in the afternoon, over the next few days, even as the rest of the country enjoys mainly sunny and dry conditions in its latest weather update.

According to the weatherman in its update issued on Saturday and set to run from January 17 to Wednesday, 21, mornings across Nairobi and the Highlands east of the Rift Valley will start with sunny intervals, with a chance of afternoon showers in several areas.

Night temperatures are expected to remain partly cloudy, providing some relief from the daytime warmth.

At the same time, Kenya Met forecasts maximum temperatures in Nairobi and neighbouring counties to hover around 29°C, with minimum temperatures dipping to 7°C, particularly in the early mornings.

Western Kenya, including the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and counties like Kisumu, Nakuru, and Kericho, will also experience sunny intervals in the mornings, with a slight chance of showers in the afternoons on Sunday and Monday.

Maximum daytime temperatures in these regions are projected at 31°C, while early mornings could see temperatures as low as 7°C, even as nighttime skies are expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the week.

North-western counties, including Turkana and Samburu, will remain hot and dry, with maximum temperatures reaching 38°C and minimums around 17°C, with sunny intervals dominating both mornings and afternoons and partly cloudy nights.

Highlands east of the Rift, including Nyeri, Meru, Embu, and Kiambu, will experience occasional afternoon showers from Saturday to Monday, before returning to mainly sunny intervals later in the week.

Additionally, the northeastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo are expected to remain mostly dry, though Garissa may see brief showers on Saturday afternoon. Daytime temperatures will peak at 38°C, with nights cooling to around 16°C.

Southeastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, will experience sunny intervals in the mornings, with occasional afternoon showers near Mt Kilimanjaro on the Kenya-Tanzania border over the weekend. Maximum temperatures are forecast at 32°C, with minimums around 14°C.

The coastal region, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, will see sunny intervals throughout the week, with a chance of light showers in some areas on Saturday afternoon. This will be even as daytime temperatures are expected to be 34°C, with nights around 23°C.

Strong northeasterly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected over North Western, North-Eastern, South-Eastern Lowlands, and the Coast, prompting authorities to advise caution for outdoor activities, particularly for small boats and high-profile vehicles.
