Provisional results for the presidential election in Uganda have indicated a clear early lead for President Yoweri Museveni as vote tallying continues across the country.
12: 20: National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi’s home is reportedly under siege, according to NUP head of Finance, Benjamin Katana.
Katana has also raised concerns over the Electoral Commission releasing results without specifying the districts they are coming from.
11:35: Figures released by the Ugandan Electoral Commission show President Museveni is leading the presidential race with 76.25 per cent, representing approximately 3.9 million votes.
On the other hand, his main competitor, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has so far secured 19.85 per cent, translating to about 1.3 million votes.
So far, results from roughly 45 per cent of polling stations have been received and verified.
Despite the current internet shutdown in Uganda, the country's electoral commission continues to provide live updates at the National Tally Centre, with media houses allowed to capture the proceedings.
However, despite Museveni’s early advantage, the latest figures are still provisional and may change as additional results are received from the remaining polling stations across the country.
