Professor Nyong’o and Mr Chepkwony also discussed security issues after some voters were prevented from casting their ballot in Muhoroni, which is on the border. There were reports that those who were prevented from voting were planning revenge.

The two leaders stated that they had mutually agreed to meet in a bid to foster peace and avoid further clashes at the border. The two leaders pledged to ensure the safety of communities living in the two countries.

Prof Nyong’o stated: “Kericho people are welcome to invest in Kisumu while those in my county can invest in Kericho too.”

On Friday, a rowdy mob barricaded roads in Muhoroni and Kipsitet towns, paralyzing transport for several hours. The barricades prevented voters from accessing Bogwo Primary School polling station to exercise their civic duty.

Mr Paul Ngeny, one of those injured by the mob, lamented that he was accosted as he left the polling station. The mob raided the polling station causing electoral agency staff to seek refuge at the nearby Kapchebwai polling station.

“We were forced to sleep at Kipsitet trading centre following reports that the roads had been barricaded by youth,” Mr Gibson Cheruiyot, the Presiding Officer of Kapchebwai centre stated.

Deputy OCPD Nathan Sanya affirmed that there had been tension at the border over the repeat election. He further added that some people obstructed voters who wanted to participate in the repeat presidential election.

"Some hooligans blocked people from voting at Bogwo leading to the moving of the polling station. The voters were duly informed of the changes and I am told the process is going on well," said Mr Sanya.
