Why Postmortem Will Not Be Done on Catholic's Bishop Korir

Eldoret Catholic Bishop Cornelius Korir passed away on Monday at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and his colleagues have revealed that no postmortem will be done on his body.

Homa Bay Diocese Bishop Phillip Anyolo, who is the Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, on Tuesday stated that the burial committee did not see any reason why an autopsy should be conducted because they already knew the cause of his death.

Anyolo revealed that Bishop Korir had diabetes and high blood pressure which were detected late and may have caused his death.

He added that doctors had started managing the complications before the Bishop died on Monday morning.

"The health problems were not detected early. He spent several days in bed.

“The burial committee has seen no need to conduct the autopsy since Korir died of diabetes and high blood pressure," Anyolo was quoted by Citizen.

The Homa Bay Bishop further revealed that the deceased was set to go for specialised treatment at Karen Hospital in Nairobi that morning and a flight had already been booked.

Leaders from across the country mourned Korir's death describing him as a genuine man of God who loved all people without discrimination.

Former President Daniel Arap Moi eulogised the late Bishop as 'a humble man of God who valued humanity and justice.'

He added that Korir played a big role in bringing communities together and always preached peaceful co-existence.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr also described Korir as a brave leader who criticised injustice.
