Sonko to Give NASA Supporters' Families Sh100,000 Each

Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has promised to give families of the victims of the post-election violence Sh 100,000 each.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Governor noted that he would personally contribute the money to enable the families cater for funeral expenses.

Several people, believed to be NASA supporters, lost their lives during the chaos and protests that erupted especially in Opposition strongholds.

"To the families who lost their loved ones across the country, I have pledged a personal contribution of Sh 100,000," part of the statement read.

Mr Sonko also clarified that he would donate the amount to any other families across the country irrespective of their religion or political party affiliation.

He also pointed out that the Nairobi county government, under his administration, will assist the affected families irrespective of their tribes.

According to the KNCHR, thirty-seven people were killed after the August 8 elections due to alleged use of excessive force by police officers while quelling the protests.

Nonetheless, the officers refuted this claims indicating that only four people were killed during the demos.

Regarding the recent incident in Kawagware where an unknown gang looted shops and destroyed property, Sonko made a personal donation of Sh1 Million.
