Governor Mike Sonko Suspends Senior County Officials

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday suspended two senior officials in the City hall offices who were allegedly scheming to sabotage the County government.

In a letter released on Thursday, Acting County Secretary Leboo ole Morintaat noted that the two officials allowed hawkers to carelessly block shops in the Central Business District (CBD).

The two , Albert Kipkoech and Chrispine Caleb, were supervising operations within the capital when the hawkers started flooding the city street, disrupting businesses.

Mr Caleb was the acting operations director while Kipkoech was the acting deputy.

"You are hereby instructed to proceed on compulsory leave with immediate effect and not later than November 2 until you are recalled," the letter read.

Peter Mbaya, who is the Senior Inspector at City Hall has been asked to take over as the acting Operations Director.

"You will monitor and plan operations in the city, prepare the department's operations and enforce laws within all the sub-counties," the letter read.

Mr Mbaya has also been instructed to discipline workers and attend meetings on various departmental operations.

This comes after several complaints were launched by the Nairobi business community and residents of the presence of hawkers in the Nairobi streets, thereby, interfering with the city's operations.
