Pastors Now Oppose Plan To Create Prime Minister's Position

The Assemblies of Pentecostal Churches and Ministries in Embu has rejected a proposal by the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) that the position of Prime Minister be created to foster inclusivity.

The clerics argued that creating the position and two deputies would be a big burden on taxpayers.

The NCCK, led by Cannon Karanja, had on Tuesday vouched for the creation of the post, stating that it would help in keeping the country united.

The Embu clerics gathered for a press briefing at a hotel where they also advised National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga to call off his new resistance movement.

They instead called upon him to seek redress though legal mechanisms.

The group was led by Chairman Bishop Mike Ngare, Secretary-General Bishop Gerald Thiga and Bishop Silus Njeru.

Mr Thiga stated: “We are calling on all church leaders to bring harmony among the citizens so that there can be peace which has been lacking for some considerable period.”

They further called on Church leaders to stay neutral so as to promote cohesion.
