Officer in Uhuru's Security Team Arrested over Gun Theft

A police officer attached to the Presidential escort unit was on Saturday arrested after he allegedly stole a pistol in Nairobi county.

According to Police, the officer who is based at Ruiru General Service Unit is reported to have stolen the Jericho pistol from the Ruiru armory.

The Police officer went ahead and gave the stolen pistol to a suspected gangster based in Kawangware, Nairobi.

He is accused of selling the gun at Sh100,000 to an unidentified buyer.

Following this, a team led by the Flying Squad, Presidential Escort, and DCI Dagoretti police unit officers was assembled before it traced the broker and recovered the weapon which was loaded with 15 bullets.

During the operation carried out, the suspected gangster was also arrested.

The Police officer is expected to appear in court on Monday.

Police say they are investigating if the trend is a common occurrence at the camp.

The Presidential security team is always made up of an elite team from the General Service Unit.
