President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared winner of the recently concluded Presidential election but all is not done and dusted as a new petition challenging his win is set to be filed at the Supreme Court today (Monday).
A lobby group called We-the-People that styles itself as a citizens’ alliance is expected to file a petition challenging the validity of the October 26 presidential poll.
The group argues that the election was not credible and created a lot of uncertainty.
“Rather than using the historic Supreme Court judgment to reform and raise electoral standards, the five-year cycle of electoral instability has been further entrenched.
"This is horribly costly in ways the nation cannot afford and continues to create uncertainty and fear,” the group says in one of the pleadings to be filed in court Monday morning.

According to the Nation, the decision to file the petition has been a highly guarded secret for fear of possible attacks from State-sponsored goons.
“Our fear has been vindicated after the State issued summons to some NGOs on suspicion of drafting the petition,” one member of the group was quoted.
It is alleged that several NGOs wanted to file numerous petitions at a go to ensure the government does not gag them but we could not confirm those claims.
The lobby also questions whether the fresh Presidential poll was conducted within provisions of the Constitution and in accordance with the September 1 Judgement that nullified the August election.
The last petition against President Kenyatta was filed by National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga and he emerged victorious as the Supreme Court ordered a fresh election on grounds of illegalities and irregularities.
