Mombasa Leaders Give Joho 2 Strict Conditions

Two Muslim clerics have given Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi two strict conditions over their call for the secession of the Coastal region from the country.

Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council (KEMNAC) acting Secretary General Sheikh Amani Khamis and Chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao first asked the two county bosses to make Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) leader Omar Mwamnuadzi the coast region's leader.

The clerics also asked Joho and Kingi to ensure all MRC members who have court cases are adequately represented by top lawyers in the country.

Khamis noted that the MRC leaders were fighting for the same agenda that the two governors are now agitating for.

"If they are serious about seceding, they should make Mwamnuadzi the leader of the region. Only then will we know that they mean business," Sheikh Khamis stated.

Mwamnuadzi, who was at the forefront of agitating for secession, has been facing several charges, including illegal gun possession and incitement in Kwale and Mombasa courts since 2012.

He has since gone missing, jumping bail and skipping several court sessions.

Last week, MRC spokesperson Rashid Mraja termed secession plan by Joho and Kingi insincere and selfish.

The MRC questioned the motives of the governors, further adding that they never supported the movement when it called for the same years ago.

Additionally, Mraja dismissed the separation remarks accusing the leaders of making mere political statements.
