Governor Wahome Gakuru's Final Tweets

Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru died on Tuesday morning following a grisly road accident at Makenji along the Thika-Sagana highway.

He was taken to Thika Level 5 Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries as he awaited transfer to Nairobi Hospital.

The people of Nyeri were devastated as Gakuru became the second Governor to die within the span of a year, following the passing of Nderitu Gachagua in February at a London hospital.

Governor Gakuru had sent out inspiring messages to his followers on Twitter days to his death.

He quoted the scripture as he asked people to live lives full of love and respect God.

Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. -Ephesians 5:2

The Governor was on his way to Nairobi for a radio interview when the accident occurred.

Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina described the Governor as a kind man with a great plan for the county.

He stated: "He was a hardworking man who had a good plan for Nyeri County. He was committed to cleaning the system and it is sad we have lost him.

"We thank God for the time we had with him," the Senator added.

In his last tweet, he posted images of an event where he hosted Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates from Alliance High School at his Runda home.
