Government Ordered to Swear in Nyeri Governor Within 6 Hours

The Government has been given a six-hour ultimatum to swear in Nyeri Deputy Governor Mutahi Kahiga as the new County boss.

Nyeri teachers, led by KNUT chairperson Patrick Karinga, noted that the teachers Union is ready to protest if  Mr Kahiga is not sworn in by Friday midday.

They faulted the government for breaching the Constitution by delaying the swearing in of the former Nyeri KNUT Secretary General.

"Let them know we have the numbers to demonstrate if Kahiga, who is a former teacher, is not sworn in. The Constitution must be followed to the latter," they directed.

The Executive Secretary Zachary Mathenge pointed out that there had been a lacuna in Nyeri caused by the delay in the swearing-in of the fourth Governor.

"Does it mean that Kahiga is not qualified? they should even know that he is so qualified and is almost completing his masters," Mr Mathenge noted.

Kahiga's inauguration was postponed indefinitely following an advice from the Council of Governors.

The transition team had already started the preparations for Kahiga to take the oath which was to be presided over by High Court Judge Jairus Ngaah.

Information County Executive Committee (CEC) Muthui Kariuki on Wednesday noted that the deputy governor cannot execute any executive order before he takes an oath of office.

The deputy county head has also assured that he would retain the newly appointed CECs who were sworn in last week.
