Important Notice To All Nairobians Ahead Of Presidential Petition

Nairobi Police Comandant Japheth Koome has declared that no demonstrations or public gatherings will be allowed to take place in or around the Central Business Distraict (CBD) this week as the Supreme Court begins to hear various Presidential petitions.

Mr Koome stated that the police would not hesitate to arrest anyone found causing chaos in the city.

In a Sunday press briefing, the police boss also asked Kenyans to disregard reports of an upcoming terror attack in the city being circulated on various social media platforms.

Koome further stated that a Sunday rally at Nairobi's Jacaranda Grounds by the National Super Alliance (NASA) was illegal as they had not notified the authorities.

The first was filed by former Kilome MP Harun Mwau.

He argues that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) did not conduct the repeat election in accordance with the law.

Mr Mwau maintains that the electoral body should have begun by calling for new party nominations as the repeat poll was a fresh election.

Another was filed by human rights activists Njonjo Mue and Khalef Khalifa.

While citing various reasons for wanting to have the repeat poll annuled, they maintain that the IEBC did not follow the law in conducting the election.

The petition reads in part: “The election conducted by the 1st and 2nd Respondents on 26 October 2017 failed to meet the general principle stipulated under Article 81(d) of the Constitution of Kenya of universal suffrage based on the aspiration for fair representation and equality of vote.”
