New Timetable For Anti-Uhuru Demos Unveiled

Kisumu Senator Fred Outa has responded to calls from residents and business leaders to end future protests against electoral injustice by noon.

Speaking at a Gala Awards ceremony in Kisumu over the weekend, Outa stated that demonstrations would no longer last the entire day to enable people to go on with their businesses as usual.

Demos in the lakeside city were a common occurrence during the election period leading to the closure of several businesses as police engaged protesters.

Outa reiterated the region’s commitment to fighting for democracy in the country and, in particular, an end to electoral impunity.

He, however, stated that there was a need to carry out the protests strategically to save the county from lagging behind economically.

The former Nyando MP added that the change will also go a long way in doing away with criminals who disguise themselves as protesters to cause mayhem.

“I want to promise Kisumu residents that we still have our agitation to a better democracy but we want to do it moderately.

“We will be doing our demonstrations in the morning and end by lunchtime,” he remarked.

The Kisumu Business Owners Association chairman Mr Israel Agina and Kisumu County Small Enterprise Association chairman Antony Kwache were among leaders who called for the change.

On Sunday, Nairobi Police boss Japheth Koome urged National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders to adhere to the law in their planned protests set for this week.

He added that the police had not received notification of a public gathering or demonstration in the city.
