Court Issues Ruling on Woman Who Killed Kenyan Rugby Player

Two prime suspects in the killing of rugby player Michael Okombe have been released on a Sh300,000 bond each.

Maryanne Mumbi and Calvin Okoth were accused of killing Mr Okombe two weeks ago.

An autopsy done last week revealed that Mr Okombe died due to internal bleeding after he was stabbed four times on different parts of his body.

A report released to his family by Government Pathologist Titus Ngulungu, indicated the player had four wounds on the chest, head, back and cheek.

His father Josephat Shitindo Okombe, who was present at the Valley Hospital mortuary where his son’s body has been lying, stated that the deep stab on his right chest was the main cause of the death.

“His body was badly injured with four stabs and bruises all over his back and shoulder,” he was quoted by the Nation.

Rongai OCPD Japheth Kioko echoed the same sentiments noting that the cause of death of the player was a knife stab that resulted in excessive bleeding.

"The wound on the chest was serious, (the knife) penetrated the inner tissues and damaged all the ligaments,” revealed Mr Kioko.

One of Okombe's friends who sought anonymity revealed that there was a small disagreement between the deceased and his girlfriend (Mumbi) during which she dashed to the kitchen, came back with a knife and stabbed him in the chest.

The two had a child together but were not married.
