5 Times Kenyans Came Together and Shook the World

Coming together as a whole is perhaps the most important ingredient for success. As an individual, you cannot achieve much without involving the community or working as a team.

The coming together of different entities towards the achievement of a particular objective is what drives people forward.

And Kenyans know this all too well. Not once have they come together and made an impact. They have raised money for various causes, supported our sports people and sometimes even defended the Nation when some quarters had threatened to drag our name in mud.  In other occasions, Kenyans just come together for laughs as clearly demonstrated in these examples;

#Githeriman

Arguably one of the top hashtags during the elections, #githeriman was a welcome distraction in the tumultuous electioneering period.

47-year-old Martin Kamotho was simply performing his civic duty by lining up to vote with a snack- githeri - and one photograph later, the humble man was transformed into an internet sensation, a celebrity.

As they say, the rest is history.

#1MilliforJadudi

This is one of the most inspiring hashtags where Kenyans marshalled behind a young Emmanuel Jadudi who was suffering from brain cancer.

The story of the then 22-year-old Jadudi, which was first written by creative writing goat Jackson Biko, started off bleak and hopeless, but through the nonprofit fundraising, he was able to access health care and given yet another chance at life.

#NationalAnthemChallenge

Kenyans’ patriotism is unparalleled when it comes to rallying behind a trend about national unity.

Recall the #NationalAnthemChallenge where corporates, bands, choirs and enthusiastic ‘singers’ made their own rendition of Kenya’s magnificent national anthem? It brought the best in us, what we truly believed in and proved beyond reasonable doubt the kind of high esteem we hold this country in.

#JazaKasa

How about the #JazaKasa drive when we thronged into the Kasarani Safaricom Stadium in tens of thousands, all to support young talent when Kenya had the privilege of hosting the U18 World Championships?

In the process, we casually broke the IAAF world record for the largest crowd to attend a U-18 Championship with a capacity crowd of 60,000.

No matter the situation, Kenyans have risen to the occasion in solidarity, proudly displaying our love for the country.

Everyone is invited to participate - the only criteria is the love of country and a spirit of teamwork to make something big!

Beyond the hashtags, the only better thing is a way to show the Kenyan spirit with the intensity it deserves and express it the only way a Kenyan can.

That is now a reality with the customised #Twaweza emoji.

The emoji brings to life the Kenyan spirit of love and togetherness in a fun and interactive manner- a gift that keeps on giving.

Saying it is something, but expressing it is everything.

What if, in the spirit of #Twaweza we’d come together and create a world record of the fastest hashtag to ever reach 1M tweets! Let's go! pic.twitter.com/GfNvnetoOI
