Nairobi motorists have been advised to brace for traffic disruptions on Friday, August 22 as the city prepares to hist the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) game between Kenya and Madagascar.

The game, which will take place at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is set to bring temporary road closures and traffic diversion in several key roads.

In a notice issued in Nairobi Traffic Commandant Joseph Chirchir, motorists were made aware of several traffic management measures put in place to ensure seamless movement of teams, fans and emergency services.

Diversions and Road Closures

Since the match is taking place at the Kasarani Stadium, Thika Road will inevitably be the most affected with the following disruptions and road closures announced by the traffic department.

The National Police Service has also announced there would be additional officers deployed across the affected areas to assist with traffic management, with stern action expected to be imposed on any violators.

Notably, this is the first time since the CHAN 2024 began that a traffic disruption has been announced without affecting the roads surrounding the Nyayo Stadium.

This is because the Nyayo Stadium will not host any other CHAN matches following the last game involving Algeria and Niger on Monday, August 18.

Following the quarter-final, the next CHAN match to be held in the country will be the final on August 30, regardless of whether Kenya advances.
