Government Asked to Deny NASA Strongholds Money

The Council of Professionals (CPK) has asked the Treasury and the Controller of Budget to stop disbursing funds to seven counties that passed the Peoples' Assembly motion.

The seven counties include Siaya, Homa Bay, Vihiga, Busia, Kisumu, Migori and Kakamega counties.

Addressing the press in Nairobi, CPK Chairman Ababu Namwamba stated that the withdrawal of funds should continue until the counties that passed the motion show that their actions are in accordance with the law.

Namwamba further called for the dissolution of the seven counties for contravening the law by passing illegal motions.

According to CPK, People’s Assemblies are intended to culminate an unconstitutional outfit that will put the security of the State into serious jeopardy.

“Resources cannot be used in matters that are unconstitutional. The council has written to Treasury, Senate and Parliament. We want disciplinary action taken against the four counties. This will deter other counties planning to pass the so-called People’s Assemblies motion,” Namwamba stated.

“Going by past experiences in the region, this is likely to result into displacements and deaths of thousands of people and in prolonged unmitigated internal strife and civil wars that will rip asunder the country’s peaceful social fabric,” he added.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga announced the formation of a People’s Assembly to run the country after he rejected the results of the repeat presidential election.

Odinga stated that the Assembly will restore democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law.

The NASA leader added that the Assembly will consist elected leaders and the leadership of other sectors of society in particular workers, civil society, religious leaders, women, youth and economic interest groups.
