County Splashes Sh3.7 Million to Write Governor’s Party Budget

A team responsible for organising the swearing-in of Garissa Governor Ali Korane spent Sh3.7 Million during the writing of the budget report.

The team indicated in its final report that it used nearly Sh19 Million in total expenses for preparing for the inauguration ceremony and committee members allowances.

In a detailed report that was filed, they indicated the swearing-in ceremony cost at Sh11.5 Million while the Assumption of Office Committee consumed Sh8.4 Million in expenses.

The report dated September 22 revealed that 22 committee members, their Chairman and three non-civil servants spent a cool Sh4.77 Million in sitting allowances alone.

Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, Mr Korane, and County Assembly clerk received the report.

The team was established in July and its mandate was to be overseen by the national government through the Devolution and Planning Ministry.

The responsibilities of the committee included organising security for both the Governor and deputy governor-elect, coordination of swearing-in ceremony of the leaders, among others.

Garissa County Secretary, Mohamud Mursal, chaired the committee which had senior members of the county and national government officials, including the county commissioner.

After the August 8 General Election, governors across the country were given huge funds to help coordinate their inauguration.

However, several governors led by Nairobi's Mike Sonko turned down the huge loot and directed the funds to development in the county.
