Traffic Stopped As Youth Search For Raila

Drama unfolded in Karatina town as a group of youth in the area stopped a convoy that was headed to the burial of late Nyeri Governor Dr. Wahome Gakuru.

The rowdy youth disrupted traffic as they claimed to be searching for the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga.

The episode interrupted the flow of traffic on the busy Karatina-Nairobi highway for almost two hours immediately after the vehicle carrying the deceased passed.

Youth shouting anti-Raila slogans poured out onto the highway after rumors spread around that the opposition leader would pass through the highway to the funeral.

The angry youths flagged down all vehicles headed to Nyeri.

Motorists were forced to open their car boots and the youth went ahead to search underneath, demanding to know whether Mr Odinga was onboard.

The occupants were further asked to identify themselves before being allowed to proceed with their journey.

A traffic police officer who tried to intervene in an effort to ease the traffic flow was confronted by the hostile youth who threatened to beat him up.

Furthermore, the youth made a solemn vow to prevent the opposition leader from slipping through to the funeral.
