Kenya Met Forecast: Rainfall and Cold Weather Expected in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kisumu

Continued rainfall, strong winds, and chilly conditions are expected to hit several regions across the country this week, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.

In its weekly forecast, the department said that Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and North-western Kenya will experience continued rain between Tuesday, August 19, and Saturday, August 23.

On the other hand, the Coast, the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, will experience strong  South-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots during this period.

During the morning, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi counties will experience sunny intervals throughout the week. However, the weatherman has encouraged residents of these areas to brace for showers during the afternoon and night throughout the week.

According to the department, the maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 24°C, while the minimum temperature will be 7°C.

Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as Tana River County, will experience day-long sunny conditions and cloudy conditions during the night until Saturday.

The maximum temperatures in these counties are predicted to be  30°C, while the minimum temperatures will be 20°C.

Daylong sunny intervals are set to be experienced in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as the inland parts of Tana River County throughout the week. The nights will remain cloudy during this period.

The maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to be 28°C, while the minimum temperature will be 09°C.

Rains accompanied by thunderstorms are set to hit Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot counties, during the day and night throughout the forecasted period.

According to the weatherman, the maximum temperatures in these regions are expected to be 29°C, while the minimum temperatures are expected to be 08°C. 

Turkana and Samburu counties are expected to receive rain both during the day and night in the next five days, according to the weatherman. The maximum temperatures in these regions are expected to be 33°C, while the minimum temperatures will be 07°C.

Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties are set to experience sunny intervals during the day, throughout the week. Cloudy conditions are set to prevail during the night in these areas, according to the department. The maximum temperature is expected to be 37°C, while the minimum temperatures will be 14°C.
