Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Tuesday introduced a hotline to report anyone dumping within Nairobi county.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Joab Mwaura, the Director of Governor's Press Service confirmed the move indicating that it has already been enforced by the devolved unit.

The former journalist also noted that the offenders would be charged in court according to the county by-laws.

He clarified that the new system would be enforced in the entire county.

The Governor also raised concerns over reports that illegal dumping around the CBD is done by business owners, especially in the hotel industry.

"They pay street kids to pick up garbage from the backdoors of the hotels at night and dump them along the lanes in the city," Governor Sonko noted.

According to Mr Sonko, this move will make every Nairobian responsible in ensuring that the city streets are clean.
