Raila's Message on Resignation of Mugabe

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has hailed the resignation of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the former Prime Minister lauded the people of Zimbabwe for their 'irrepressible hunger for freedom and liberty.'

Odinga expressed his delight at the 'peaceful overthrow of dictatorship' stating that Mugabe's resignation was a sign of better things to come.

"The tumultuous scenes of ecstasy throughout Zimbabwe at the departure of the dictator Robert Mugabe attest to the African people’s irrepressible hunger for freedom and liberty.

"You have succeeded in peacefully overthrowing tyranny and dictatorship and created for yourselves the promise of a prosperous future that only democracy can provide," he stated.

The NASA leader further added that he was the only African leader who condemned Mugabe's leadership and the rigging of elections in Zimbabwe.

"For me personally, this a moment of great satisfaction and of a dream fulfilled.

"In 2008, as Prime Minister of Kenya, I believe I was the only African leader to have condemned Mr Mugabe’s power grab through a rigged election and offered support for your democratic future.

"All of Africa will also be delighted with the strong international support your triumph has engendered," remarked the former PM.

He also praised the people of Zimbabwe for their triumph stating that it would instill fear in the hearts of the continent’s many dictators.
