Sonko and I Have Not Fallen Out - Igathe

Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has urged the county’s residents to ignore rumors circulating on social platforms of a rift between him and his boss Mike Sonko.

Social media users have been circulating allegations that Mr Igathe and Sonko were not seeing eye to eye on most decisions regarding the county.

However, these rumors were put to rest by Mr Igathe in a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, stating: Political distractions aside, we have a brotherhood that goes beyond the ongoing rumors.”

Igathe went a step further in an effort to dispel the hearsay and posted photos of the county boss and himself enjoying light moments over drinks.

“Sonko’s humor for the Oscars, I could not have asked for a better boss #WorkHardPlayHard,” the deputy governor captioned.

Governor Sonko and Igathe had earlier held a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to discuss partnerships in health and education.

Additionally, the two hosted representatives from the Somali Vehicles NV Belgium to discuss the supply of firefighting equipment to schools in the county.

In a move to reassure Nairobi citizens, Governor Sonko posted photos of the meeting and affirmed that he was working closely with his deputy.

“I wish to assure the people of Nairobi that the NCC executive is working together with the sole aim of uplifting the living standards of Nairobians,” he wrote.

Devolution in the last five years has encountered in-house fights among county leaders with some governors and their deputies having disputes during their first term in office.
